About Us
Our Mission
Plant Power Prescription (Plant Power Rx) is a community-based food prescription initiative working to reduce food insecurity and improve health equity in Miami-Dade County. We believe access to nutritious, plant-based foods and education is a right—not a privilege.
What We Do
Through partnerships with the University of Miami, Mr. Greens Produce, EatWell Exchange, Dade County Street Response (DCSR), Village FREEdge, and the Overtown Youth Center, Plant Power Rx provides:
Free plant-based food boxes packaged and delivered by Mr. Greens Produce twice weekly for one year, supplying a total of 6 days’ worth of meals for each household member weekly.
An 8-week nutrition education course, offered in English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole, that teaches families about whole food plant-based (WFPB) nutrition, how to prepare healthy meals, understand nutrition labels, and prevent chronic disease.
Age-tailored learning experiences, so adults and children can learn and cook together.
Cultural connection through food, featuring recipes from EatWell Exchange and spice blends from local celebrity chef Calvin Harris of Spiced Up.
Our Impact
Plant Power Rx aims to:
Increase healthy food consumption by 30%
Improve nutrition literacy by 50%
Expand access to fresh, affordable plant-based foods for families living in food deserts
Our Vision
We’re building a sustainable model that empowers communities to thrive—transforming food access, health education, and wellness for generations to come.
